Last night shortly after 01:00 Limassol and other areas of Cyprus were sunk into darkness due to a small scale explosion at a power switch at Vasiliko Power Station in Moni bringing back bad memories from last years munition explosion which took out the whole power station. A fire was caused by an overload in the system which was successfully put out by the Fire Department before damaging any other systems. No injuries were reported. Electricity Authority Cyprus technicians worked through the night to restore power to all parts of the island. According to officials there is no indication of sabotage.
Conspiracy theorists in social media already linked the issue with the recent announcement for increase in electricity prices by 1 to 4%.
