13 employees of the Organized Beaches Services of Paralimni Municipality, aged from 30 to 64 years, were arrested by the police yesterday on charges of squandering public money. According to police information, the suspects received and kept the money visitors paid for renting sunbeds and umbrellas at the municipality’s beaches. The municipality council noticed the irregularities in the income and filed a complaint to the police. The estimated amount taken by the suspects is exceeding half a million euro. The police examined the data on the ticket issuing devices and the Town Hall’s computers and concluded that the culprits were regularly zeroing the devices and pocketing the revenue.
