Sheep and goat farmers went through with their threats, from yesterday they started releasing their animals free in protest for not receiving the full subsidies they demanded. Yesterday more than one thousand of goats were left unattended in Paphos district. Around 40 farmers from all over Cyprus gathered in the St Efrem area near the village of Amargeti and let their animals free in the surrounding fields. The farmers stated that they requested subsidies from the state because they have no money to buy food for them. The president of the Sheep and Goat farmers union of Paphos said that they will continue to release goats on a daily basis until their demands are met. A number of the goats have today been transported to a government facility and are being taken care by the state.
It all sounds like a joke but unfortunately it is not.
